Wednesday, December 18: Anna was induced on December 17th at noon. After a day's labor, 3 hours of pushing, and a c-section, William arrived at 12:54 a.m. on December 18th, weighing in at 9 pounds, 15.7 ounces and measuring 22 inches. He is a very beautiful and healthy baby boy! Welcome William!!!! And thanks for holding out until the 18th so you could share your birthday with your Grand-Dede!
Thursday, December 12: Appointment update: Anna made no progress at all since last week. She's feeling disappointed, but William is healthy and happy, so all's well with the world. Bill & Marge come in this evening and that gives us something very special to look forward to! William is due tomorrow ... but clearly gonna leave us hangin' for a while longer! Meany!
Saturday, December 7: We were successful in getting our appt. bumped up and we saw our nurse-midwife yesterday. William is great! They took his heartbeat immediately after a contraction, so it was up in the 160s. Anna is about the same ... about a fingertip of dialation is all the progress that was made last week. Anna's intuition has been that William will come early, but now she's expecting a late arrival. Time will tell ...
Wednesday, December 4: Actually, the news is that there's no news ... we were supposed to have our weekly check-up this afternoon, but Mother Nature intervened! Our appointment was at 3:00. The snow began at noon. By 2:00 the roads were treacherous ... and we weren't taking any chances with our precious cargo here! We have been re-scheduled for Monday, but are hoping to get in earlier. In the meantime, William is kicking and rolling, so we know he's okay. Thank you, William, for being such a considerate and agreeable boy!
Wednesday, November 27: Appointment update ~ Anna is almost 100% effaced, approximately -1 to 0 station, and no dialation yet (though her cervix is very soft ... is that an over-share? hehe). Yet another doctor confirmed today that William feels to be not so big a baby (though she assured us that doctors can be fooled from time to time!). So, again, we're slowly and steadily making progress. It could be any day now ... we'll just have to wait and see what William decides to do.
Friday, November 22: Well, we made it. William is officially considered full term today!! Realistically, he will likely stay put for the next 3-4 weeks, but has the same chances of entering the world healthy today as he would on his due date. Eric, Anna, and Alice took an infant CPR course last night, so we are prepared in the event that William or Joshua have an accident that requires assisted breathing and heart compressions, or if they begin to choke (God forbid!!). Angie & Mark also took this course a few months back. It's nice to know that we are all prepared for an emergency, though we hope to never have to use these new skills!! Anna packed her hospital bag and the car seat is installed. Anna & Angie went Christmas shopping for the boys today. We had FUN! All in all, I'd say we're ready!!
Tuesday, November 19: Doctor's appointment update: Today we were 80% effaced, -2 station, and not at all dialated ... what this translates to is that Anna's cervix is almost completely thinned out and William is beginning to descend into the pelvic region. He may or may not stay there. Anna is glad that a week's worth of intense and constant contractions actually led to some progress. Of course, this doesn't mean much ... women walk around effaced and dialated for weeks sometimes before the baby makes his/her grand entrance. But it is progress, and that's good! In other news: William's nursery is complete and we're anxious to bring him home.
Saturday, November 16: We had a wonderful baby party today!! Thanks to Mom, Angie and Mark for throwing such a great event. Despite the nasty, rainy weather, we had lots of friends and family turn out to celebrate with us, and it meant the world to us!! We received lots of great gifts and feel very overwhelmed and blessed by everyone's generosity. What a great day!! Click here to see some pictures.
Wednesday, November 13: William is due ONE MONTH from today. WOW! We saw the doctor this afternoon. Anna is 30% effaced at this point, but not at all dialated and William has not engaged yet, so we probably have a ways to go. William was not making mischief with the doppler today, thank goodness, and his heartbeat was strong at 140 bpms. Dr. Goodnight offered some encouraging news ... Anna has a whole lot of amniotic fluid, which partially explains the, well, how do you say it ... grandness of her belly. According to Dr. G, William is right at average size, so we should be delivering an average sized baby ... but we'll believe that when we see it! Well, we could be meeting William as early as a week from Friday or as late as 5 weeks from Friday. And we're very much looking forward to our party on Saturday. Auntie Angie did all of the shopping for it today ... makes it all seem very real and oh so exciting!!!
Friday, November 8: We are 35-weeks today!! Went for a check-up yesterday ... William is fine. Still measuring a little ahead size-wise! He gave us a MOMENTARY scare. When the nurse-midwife, Phyllis, put the doppler on him, his heartbeat took a dive and caused us all some concern. But we were then hooked up to a fetal monitor for 20 minutes and his heartbeat was strong, ranging from 120~145 bpm's. Phyllis measured his excellerations and the overall pattern, and said he was PERFECT!!! So there it is ... William will be here anywhere from 2~6 weeks from today!! We start seeing the doctor every week at this point.
Friday, October 25: We are 33-weeks today!! Went for a check-up yesterday ... based on fundal height, William is measuring 2-weeks ahead of schedule (though still well within normal range for 33-weeks), but that's no indicator of when he'll arrive! He is now head-down ... so thanks for those "turn baby turn" vibes. They seem to have worked! His heart beat is slowing down as he grows, but continues to be very strong. All is well. He could be here in as little as 4 weeks from today, or as many as 9 weeks!!!
Wednesday, October 9: Good doctor's appointment today. William is growing on schedule, and his heartbeat measured at 140 bpm. It looks like he MAY be in a breach position at present, and we're hoping that, if so, he'll do a 180 over the next several weeks. Please send lots of "turn baby turn" vibes our way!! We start seeing the doctor every 2 weeks now. We're definitely in the final stretch!!!
Tuesday, October 8: We started Prepared Childbirth classes today. WOW, what a milestone!!!
Friday, October 4: We are 30 weeks today. Only 7-12 weeks before William arrives. We're over 3/4 of the way there!!!!
Friday, September 13: We made it! Today we officially enter the third trimester! William is doing great. At Tuesday's appointment, he was measuring right on track and he had a steady, strong heartbeat!
Joshua Christopher~Lyle Flynn has arrived!!! Yup, William's cousin, Joshua, was born on Monday, September 9, 2002 at 8:27 p.m., weighing in at a whopping 8lbs. 2 oz. He's the sweetest thing, and we're so excited that he's here. Mom, Dad, and baby are all doing very well.
Baby Party date has been set for November 16, 2002. To be held in Blacksburg, VA.
August 9, 2002: 22 week appointment was excellent. William is growing by leaps and bounds, and has a very strong heart beat. He liked kicking the doppler!
Week of August 4: And the kicking begins ... Eric gets a swift kick, too!
July 26, 2002: Ultrasound confirms that the baby is right on track! And IT'S A BOY!!!
Week of July 21: Anna starts feeling flutters.
June 21--July 8: Baby's first trip to Italy!
Week of June 14: Anna's 9-week stint with morning sickness mercifully comes to an end as we prepare to depart for 2-week vacation overseas. Yay!!!
