On-site Wastewater Treatment and Disposal Systems

This shows the excavation required for the buried, gravity sand filter. At this point a layer of sand has been added to the bottom of the hole to ensure that the liner is not punctured when it is installed.

Installation of the liner over the sand layer.

Inspecting the liner prior to adding the filter sand.

Adding a gravel layer over the sand prior to installing the distribution system.

A perforated drainage pipe distributes effluent from the septic tank over the sand filter.

The line that carries effluent from the filter to the pump chamber (back center). The two vertical pipes near the pumb chamber are part of the tablet chlorination system employed for disinfection prior to spray application.

A close-up of a valve (vertical pipe) that directs flow either to the pump chamber for application on the spray irrigation site or to a backup conventional subsurface absorption field.

The distribution box that will apply effluent from the sand filter to the conventional system if needed.

Digging trenches and installing the lines for the spray irrigation risers.

Overview of the pasture where the spray system was installed.
