Energy-efficient Wireless Sensor Networks Our research involves the development of new energy-efficient MAC protocols to optimize the sensor network lifetime by maximizing the amount of time a sensor platform places its transceiver in sleep mode and continues to meet all network message passing requirements. We model energy-efficient wireless sensor network MAC protocols in OPNET in order to compare them using standard network metrics. OPNET Modeler is indispensable in our study since we use OPNET?s existing TCP/IP and traffic models, and we are writing process models to implement the MAC protocols.
