RESEARCH OVERVIEW: The primary goal of my research is to
evaluate genetic tools as biological measures of stream-crossing barrier
improvement effectiveness. Natural
resource agency personnel can use these tools to prioritize sites for improving passage of aquatic organisms
within a watershed and for long-term monitoring of fish diversity goals. GOAL 1: To evaluate whether
stream-crossings that are barriers to fish movement influence genetic
diversity of fish populations. OBJECTIVE 1: To establish indicators of
reduced genetic diversity for brook trout populations that can be associated
with stream-crossing improvement projects. GOAL 2: To investigate risks to brook trout
populations posed by identified
threats. OBJECTIVE 2: To apply a risk model for
brook trout populations that
includes genetic diversity. GOAL 3: To develop prioritization tools for
stream-crossing improvement projects. OBJECTIVE 3: To develop a tool for
prioritization of stream-crossing
improvement projects that includes risk factors to brook trout
populations. |
