We run (when it snows) in Blacksburg, VA. Blacksburg gets about 39” of snow a year. We also run on Mtn. Lake when there is snow. Mtn lake is about 1,500 higher than we are, so they tend to get better snow. It takes about 35 minutes to drive up to the top. We run on the roads up top and occasionally on the trails. Here are some picture of running on the Huckleberry trail in Blacksburg, VA. This is a paved trail that runs from the public library to the shopping mall in Christiansburg. Thats not snow but sleet accumulation.
That's MAX a with all four feet off the ground in the picture on the right. He's ten and LOVES to run.
Close to the scene of “Dirty Dancing”, this area has the best snowfall for our location. If we have 6 inches of snow, they have 10. We don’t actually run on Mtn. Lake property, but it was the best link available for the area. We logged more miles here last year than anywhere else. For some pictures of more pictures in the Mountain Lake area click here (2007)
Here are some pictures of running two teams on the Forest Service Rd near Mountain Lake. These pictures were taken on December 20, 2005. We did about a six mile run. When there is no snow, we run our dogs with a cart. We run mostly on trails and dirt roads. We have been know to make an appearance on the VT cross country trail and the Poverty Creek trail in the Jefferson National Forest.
Blacksburg, VA New River Trail While we haven’t run on snow here, we love this area for cart training. It is relatively flat and we can put on as many miles as we want. The dogs have learned to cross the bridges without much problem. |
