Paper #2: Annotated Bibliography

This paper is an annotated bibliography, which is a regular bibliography with descriptive summaries attached to each entry. The assignment asks you to use two library databases, the MLA bibliography and JSTOR, to locate articles about one of the primary literary sources we will be discussing this semester. You will need to locate the articles both online and in print, if possible. (Some articles will be in journals that our library only subscribes to in one form, while others will be available in both forms.) We will have three classes in the library to learn how to use the databases and find articles online and in the library's periodicals section (as well as the stacks). We will also learn about MLA style for bibliographies and how to find good style guides on the internet and in the library.

Specifics:
1. The annotated bibliography must include entries for at least 8 articles about either "Ode on a Grecian Urn," "Benito Cereno," or "The Yellow Wallpaper" (you choose which work you want to know more about and look for articles that interpret it).
2. Your annotations will discuss the author's critical approach to the story or poem and her or his conclusions. Annotations should comprise one to two concise paragraphs of summary and analysis.
3. With the annotated bibliography, you will turn in 2 printed pages from each article, in each form that you found it. For example, if you found an article online and in the print version of a journal, you will need to photocopy two pages from the print version (usually the first and second pages) and provide a print-out of the first and second pages of the online version.
4. At least four of your sources must be available in a print version in Newman Library (that is, you must find at least four sources that can be located in print in the library, in addition to any online versions that might be available).
5. There is a schedule for the library classes and the draft deadline of Oct. 12--make sure to attend the classes and get your draft in on time, as the overall grade for the paper will incorporate the draft.

Formatting:
1. The bibliographic entries should be single spaced, in hanging indents.
2. The annotations should be double spaced, in regular paragraph format. The annotations follow the bibliographic entries, which are in alphabetical order (author's last name).
3. Follow all other formatting guidelines on Prof. Hausman's regular formatting page.

4. Staple the source pages at the back of the bibliography.
