2005 In < 3 weeks, we identify a moldable polypropylene/carbon
composite that Philip Johnson, VT’s orthotist, molds into
a device that allows Cedric Humes to play the rest of
the VT Football season. Cedric is later
drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Our
work was written up in Science Magazine,
among others. We were also interviewed
nationally on ESPN’s “Cold Pizza” program on
October 2005 In our Biomaterials class, Mike Goforth, team trainer for the VT football team has given the class an assignment to augment the stiffness of arm braces used for ulnar fractures. Surprisingly, this collaboration was already highlighted in the Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/10/16/AR2005101600905.html)
