HOW I CAME TO THE DECISION TO BECOME AN EDUCATOR

The road to becoming a teacher has been a long journey.  It has been hard, but well worth the struggle.  Teaching is a practice that some people are born to do; I am one of these people.  I feel that I can make a difference in today's youth and it is through teaching.  It is not the glamour or money associated with being a teacher, it is the thought that there is the chance to alter a child's life for the better.  Changing a child's life is worth more than any amount of money.  It is a way to become immortal through your students.  Students pass a teacher's legacy from generation to generation.  Teachers have a unique opportunity to help students become better people, effectively helping to shape the future.

History has been a passion of mine for many years.  It all began in my fourth grade year.  This was the first year where I really began to appreciate history.  From that point forward, I knew that my destiny was history.  History was all that I could think about, it really became addictive.  To this day, I still have a copy of my 4th grade social studies textbook.

I really decided that teaching was something that I would like to do during my middle school days.  I felt as if this was my calling in life.  It was amazing when people would tell me that I would make a great teacher without knowing that teaching was the profession that I wanted to enter.  I do not know what made them say this, but it was nice to hear.  Since middle school, I have not thought about becoming anything else but a teacher.
