Welcome to the announcement page for our newsletter, ENVIRONMENTAL DETECTION NEWS. The links below will provide you with ISSUE ONE (July 02) of the newsletter (no charge) and SUBSCRIPTION information ($25. per year for on-line access, at least 4 issues per year, plus bonuses, see below).

ISSUE TWO (Nov. 02) is now available (subscription only). It features an article by Peter Hartel, who describes a 5-step method to identify nonpoint sources that reduces the need for large, permanent host origin libraries. ISSUE TWO also contains a technical note that describes a tool for calculating statistical confidence in samples sizes and numbers of isolates, plus an editorial that addresses issues of sample frequency and seasonality. For now ISSUE TWO is sent to subscribers as a PDF file, until our secure website (password-based) is up and running. In the new website, subscribers will find links to upcoming and previous issues, bonus items, special updates, and other information for subscribers only.

With ISSUE TWO we introduce our BONUS SYSTEM for subscribers. As with the newsletter, bonuses will be sent to all subscribers as a PDF file until our new website is ready. At least one bonus will accompany each issue of the newsletter. Some bonuses will be items such as updated publication records on source tracking and lists and contact info for those working in source tracking. Other bonus items will include project results that will be provided to subscribers 6 to 8 months ahead of release to the public. At the end of the year, every subscriber will receive a CD that will contain the year's issues of the newsletter and all bonus items.

BONUS ONE (provided at least 6 months before public release with ISSUE TWO) is a summary of a one year study where source tracking results for a freshwater stream were evaluated by library size, sampling frequency (monthly, weekly, daily, low and high flow conditions), and seasonality.
