Probability review
Point estimation
Likelihood principle
Interval estimation
Test of statistical hypothesis
Tests for mean and variance
Power and likelihood ratio test
Nonparametric tests
Resampling methods
One-way ANOVA
Two-way ANOVA
Multi-way ANOVA

Homework:  Homework problems are assigned at regular intervals. Turn them in at the beginning of the class on the date it is due. Late homeworks are not accepted so plan ahead.

You may discuss the problems with other students in the class, but you should turn in homework individually.

Some homework problems require the use of a computer. In such cases, you should attach the appropriate portion of computer printouts.
Software: You are free to choose any of the available statistical software packages (SAS, SPSS, SPLUS, R, etc.) to do homework problems. In lectures we use R for illustration.  R is a free statistical software package and you can download it from http://cran.us.r-project.org/.

Since there are no separate computer lab sessions, you are responsible for the use of your software. To help you get started, lab notes will be posted from time to time.

Exams: There are two midterms and a comprehensive final. Exams are given different weights:

Exam 1: 25%
Exam 2: 30%
Final Exam: 40%

All exams are closed book, closed notes. Necessary statistical tables will be provided at the exam time.

Makeup exam: Unless you experience medical emergencies (of your own) or participate one of the University-recognized activities, no make-up exam will be considered.  A makeup exam is given at the sole discretion of the instructor. Except for medical emergencies, you need to get prior approval from the course instructor at least a week before the exam date. You are also required to provide documented proof within a week from the regularly scheduled exam.

 Email:
When you send an email to the instructor, make sure use your VT email account (ending with @vt.edu). Emails originating from other sources (e.g., gmail, yahoo, hotmail, etc.) will be ignored.
