"By learning you will teach, by teaching you will learn." - Latin Proverb

The following pedagogy and methodology statements were written for a class I took during my fall internship, and were reinforced during my spring student-teaching placement. When I initially wrote these statements, I had very little practical experience in the classroom, but since my student-teaching, I think they are even more true.

To encourage active student involvement, I resolve to make learning collaborative.

Learning demands self-confidence. Collaboration fosters the assurance needed for exploration and discovery. Students working together in relevant and authentic learning enterprises can share in each others’ interests and past experiences to make learning a unique and personal experience for everyone involved. Content literacy and communicative competencies are also enhanced.

To support a collaborative, peer-engaged environment, I resolve to use instructional frameworks that encourage open-inquiry and incorporate content literacy into classroom learning engagements.

Learning is a hands-on/minds-on experience. The best way to support an open, interactive learning environment is to encourage collaboration among peers and use instructional strategies that allow the students the opportunity to explore and value the contributions of science for themselves.
