Obituary
Rhoda Maze Null, was born, September 4, 1870; departed this life January 6, 1940; age 69 years, 4 months and 2 days.
She was married to Andrew J. Null, September 13, 1888. She was preceded in death by four children. She leaves to mourn their loss her husband, Andrew J. Null, and the following children: Floyd V. Null, of Mansfield, Ohio; Flora Lieving, of McFarlan; Pearl Sutton, of Parkersburg; Grace Middleton, of Petroleum; and Mary Leep, of Parkersburg; also twenty-one grandchildren, four great grandchildren. Three brothers, namely, W. H. Maze, Petroleum; C. A. Maze, of Southern Pines, N. C., and F. J. Maze, of Petroleum.

Petroleum
The revival service, which Rev. Loring Howell began at the Methodist church Sunday night, was brought to a close on Wednesday due to the epidemic of scarlet fever. It is not determined as yet when Rev. Howell will be able to resume the services.
Child Is Improved
Lucille Roberts, three-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Roberts, Jr., has been quite ill with scarlet fever. Her condition is somewhat improved at this time.
Dinner Guests
Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Jackson entertained a number of their friends at a six o'clock dinner at their home here Thursday evening. The guests included: Mr. and Mrs. Russell Riley, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Kibbee, Miss Virginia Douglass and Miss Edna Jenkins. After dinner the guests enjoyed an evening of Chinese checkers and conversation.
Personals
Mr. F. M. Netser, local merchant is having his store and residence wired for electricity.
Mrs. Loring Howell will be admitted to the St. Joseph hospital where she will undergo a major operation Wednesday.
Mrs. C. W. Thrash, who has been quite ill for the past week [with] influenza and other complications is now somewhat improved.
Miss Reva Phillips has returned home after having spent a week at Brooksville the guest of her brother, Allen Phillips.
Mrs. S. R. Curry, who has been ill, is greatly improved.
Rev. and Mrs. Phillips and daughter, Dorothy, of Rusk, were guests Wednesday of Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Netser.
Miss Icy Netser of Harrisville spent the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Netser.

Son Dies In Illinois
Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Delaney, of Rusk, received a message on Tuesday stating the sad news of the death of their son, Jack Delaney, who lived in the State of Illinois.
A brother and a sister of the deceased, Cecil Delaney and Mrs. Minnie Null, both of Parkersburg left for Illinois shortly after they learned of his death.
Petroleum
Mrs. Loring Howell was hostess to the Ladies' Aid society when it met at her home Thursday afternoon. Mrs. F. M. Netser presided over a brief business session, after which followed a prayer by Mrs. Girta McFarland; scripture by Mrs. F. M. Netser and a song, "I Am Thine O, Lord," by Mrs. L. U. McFarland, Mrs. H. C. Netser, Mrs. Loring Howell and Miss Lillian Rutherford. At the close of the meeting refreshments were served to:

Attend Rehearsal
Miss Edna Jenkins and Mrs. Vincent Kibbe were at Harrisville Thursday afternoon to attend a practice of the Farm Women's club county choir. The choir is composed of ten women who will go to Morgantwn [sic] February 12 to sing at the banquet which is a part of the annual Farm and Home Week celebration. Miss Jenkins is the county music chairman.
Schools Close
Due to extremely cold weather, all the schools in this territory were closed Friday.
Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Armond of Proctor, Mrs. Frank Pegg and son of Kersey, Illinois, were the recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Dotson.
Mrs. Vera Rector and Frank McQuaid of Cairo spent Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Willis.
George Douglass was a business visitor in Harrisville Thursday.
Mrs. Marie Turner of Parkersburg was the recent guest of her mother, Mrs. Flora Lanning.
Mr. F. M. Netser, who was confined to his home for several days with influenza, is able to be out again.
Mrs. R. C. Jackson was the guest of her mother, Mrs. Agnes Kyger of Boaz, Saturday.
Jack Dulaney
Word of the death of Jack W. Dulaney, 50, of Westfield, Ill., has been received. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Dulaney of Petroleum, W. Va.
He leaves his wife, one daughter Maxine, at home; five sisters Mrs. Earl Beals of Little Falls, W. Va., Mrs. C. W. Shahan of Little Hocking, O., Mrs. Frank Maze of Petroleum, Mrs. Minnie Null of Parkersburg and Mrs. Jessie Ryan of Belpre, and four brothers, Lee Dulaney of Petroleum, T. A. Dulaney of Gordonsville, Va., Ralph Dulaney of Hamlin, W. Va., and Cecil G. Dulaney of Parkersburg.
Funeral services were held January 25 at the Westfield Baptist church, with the Rev. O. R. Steiner in charge.

A Birth
Mr. and Mrs. Casey Kerns, living at McFarlan, announce the birth of a boy baby, their second child.
Lamm Home Quarantined
The home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lamm at Cisco is under quarantine on account of Mrs. Lamm and children being quite ill with scarlet fever.
Mellin
B. L. Eddy has returned from Huntington where he has been a patient in the veteran's hospital.
Thenton Eddy was visiting with Sampson Moore and family, Sunday.
Kenneth Echard has returned to Elizabeth where he is employed in a CCC Camp.
Miss Hazel Hart is now working for Albert Brissey.
Virgil Williamson and family have been visiting with his father, H. P. Williamson, and family.
There is a protracted meeting being held at the U. B. church known as Morris Chapel. Reverend Crew is pastor.
Leo South's house got on fire one day last week, but the fire was put out before it did much damage.

Hugh Mason Serious
People living at Rusk received word a few days since that Hugh Mason, who formerly lived in the Rusk section, now near Cambridge, Ohio, was in a critical condition as the result of frozen feet and exposure to the cold.
Mr. Mason, seventy-one years of age, has been living alone, and the neighbors close [to] him had been giving him attention during the winter, assisting him in keeping his fire going, etc., but during a cold snap none of them were in for a couple of days. During that time he had no fire, both feet were frozen during the twenty-four hour period he was without fire, and a neighbor going in found him in a pitiful condition. Mason was taken to the hospital and both feet were amputated, being necessary to amputate one leg above the knee.

Layfield Has Influenza
John R. Layfield, living at Mellin, is sick and confined to his home on account of an attack of influenza.
Revival At Cisco
A series of meetings are being held at the Methodist church at Cisco, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Clifford Phillips. The attendance at the services is good.
Returns From Visit
Miss Edith Booher, has returned to her home near Mellin, after spending the past six weeks as the guest of her aunt, Mrs. Clem Wildman, at Alma.
Folks You Know
Mr. and Mrs. Clark Middleton, of Mellin, were at Racy on Sunday to spend the day with Mr. and Mrs. John Border.
Mr. and Mrs. John Turner and... family, of Racy, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Preston Simmons at their home on rural route one Petroleum, Sunday....
Mrs. Andrew Mason and Miss Margie Pribble, of Mellin, were at Sistersville to spend a few days. Mrs. Mason works at Sistersville, an employee of the B. & O. railroad company...
Everett Layfield, of Racy, has a sick cow, the animal having been very sick for several days. Several cows in that community have been sick, and a couple have died.
Rev. Andrew N. Moats, of Parkersburg, pastor of the North Fork Baptist church, filled his regular appointment there on Sunday.
Holding Meeting
A series of meetings are being held at the Sunrise Apostolic church at Mellin, the attendance being good at all the services. The services are conducted by the Rev. Mr. Holtsclaw. The Rev. Mr. Dayhuff, of St. Marys, has been assisting in the services since Tuesday night.

In Hospital
Mrs. John Higgins, of Cisco, who was admitted a patient one day last week in St. Joseph's hospital, Parkersburg, underwent a surgical operation on last Saturday.
She rallied and is doing well at this time.
Held Meeting
The Farm Womans Club of Rusk met on Friday afternoon of last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Moats at Rusk for the monthly meeting. Several members were present, and an interesting business session was held.
At the close of the meeting Mrs. Moats, served delicious refreshments.

Miss Erma Wells, of Huntington, was here for three days at the Baptist church conducting a training class; the theme was, "The children we teach about." Nine took the course and received credit.
Mrs. A. J. Mason and Mrs. Beatrice Moats were at Cairo, Sunday afternoon, to attend a board meeting of the Council of Christian Education.
Several folks from the North Fork church attended the Echo meeting at the Harrisville Baptist church, Sunday.
Mrs. L. C. Elder is very ill at her home here. Her daughter, Mrs. Bertha McCoy, of Hepzibah, is at her bedside.
The W. W. G. met at the home of Mary Hill, Saturday; also the training class was held there after the Guild meeting. After the two meetings were over Mrs. Hill served delicious refreshments to the following; Miss Erma Wells, of Huntington; Mrs. Margaret Mason, Mr. and Mrs. Cline Bennett and son, Eugene, Mr. and Mrs. Clark Middleton and children, Betty and Grover; Mrs. Edith Parks and children, Mona Lee and Ray; Mrs. Beatrice Moats and daughter, Marvel; Mr. Gould Jackson, Louise Cox, Helen Louise and Wandalee Hill and the hostess Mrs. Mary Hill.
Kester Layfield has been suffering with an infected foot, but is now somewhat improved. Kester is home on a furlough from the U. S. Navy.
Daniel Null is confined to his home with flu.
The members of the Mission Circle arre [sic] very busy quilting and making pillow slips for sale.
Cottage prayer meeting is being held in the homes of the community, we hope this will arouse an interest in the value of prayer meeting; it will be at Orval Anderson's this week.
Petroleum
The Farm Woman's club met Tuesday at noon for a covered dish dinner at the home of Vincent Kibbee. At 2 o'clock the president, Mrs. E. R. Dotson, called the meeting to order.
The lesson, "How Business-like Are We?" was discussed by the members. Mrs. H. C. Netser will be hostess to the ladies at the March meeting which will be held at the club room at the home of Miss Edna Jenkins. Those present at the meeting were. [sic] Mrs. W. V. Thrash, Mrs. A. B. Valentine, Mrs. H. C. Netser, Mrs. Louise McClaskey, Mrs. Flora Lanning, Mrs. E. R. Dotson, Mrs. Ruben Arman, Mrs. Cora Jackson, Mrs. Jennie Gordon, Mrs. L. W. McFarland, Miss Elsie Willis, Mrs. Martha Sprout and Mrs. Vincent Kibbee.
General Store Reopened
The general store owned and operated by W. F. Perrine, which, for several weeks has been closed for the purpose of remodeling, has lately been reopened.

Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Arman of New Martinsville are the guests of the former's sister, Mrs. E. R. Dotson.
Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Kibbee were the guests Sunday of Rev. and Mrs. H. E. Nuzum of Jarvisville.
John Roberts has been confined to his home for several days suffering a severe attack of influenza.
Jack Smith, of Parkersburg, was a business visitor here, Friday.
Miss Virginia Douglass attended a teachers' meeting at Harrisville, Tuesday.
Mrs. T. A. Robinson was a business visitor in Harrisville, Monday.
Mrs. Cora Jackson spent the week end at the home of her mother, Mrs. Agnes Kiger, of Boaz.
Mrs. J. S. Koehnlein, is confined to her home due to illness.
Miss Eleanor Douglass student at W. V. U. was the week end guest of her father, Dr. E. H. Douglass.
Sam McClaskey of near Huntington, was the week end guest of his mother, Mrs. Louis McClaskey.
R. E. Smith spent Monday and Tuesday with his family at Fairmont.
Mr. and Mrs. Allen Phillips, of Brooksville, were the week end guest of their parrents [sic], Mr. and Mrs. Allen Phillips.
Deaths
Hugh Mason Dies
Word was received recently by James Mason, of Racy, of the death of his uncle, Hugh Mason, of Cambridge, Ohio.
Mr. Mason died in a hospital in Cambridge of exposure to the cold at which time both feet were frozen, one being frozen to the knee. After being taken to the hospital pneumonia developed, which caused his death. He was a native of Ritchie county, being born at Racy. He was seventy-one years of age, and was never married.
Bural [sic] was made in a cemetery at Cambridge by the side of his brother, Rasha.
Sudden Death
The death of Thomas Slocum came suddenly and unexpected, he passing away from a heart attack on Sunday night about ten o'clock at his home on rural route one, Petroleum. He was seventy eight years of age. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons and four daughters. They are Herbert Slocum, route two, Petroleum; Mrs. Anna James, of St. Marys, Mrs. Ona Calvert, living in Texas; Mrs. Edith Wilson route two, Cairo; Mrs. Ruth Smith of Cairo; and Harold Slocum, at the parental home. Sixteen grandchildren are living.
Mr. Slocum, who followed farming for an occupation, was a christian [sic] and an excellent citizen. He was a native of the county, born near Petroleum.
Funeral rites were held on Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock at the MT. Zion U. B. church on the head of Marietta Run. The rites were in charge of the Rev. Mr. Smith, pastor of the Red Hill U. B. church near Parkersburg. Interment was made in the church burying lot.

Home From Hospital

The 4-H club met Tuesday evening at the club room in the home of Mr. J. W. Goff. The president, Miss Wilma Dotson, was in charge of the program and business session. Following the meeting the members played games. Those attending were Louise and Ralph Roberts, Wilma Mildred, James and Harold Dotson[;] Dale Howell, John and Donald Kirkpatrick.
Personals
Miss Edna Jenkins, who has been touring the southern states has returned to her home here. Miss Jenkins was accompanied on her trip by her cousin, Mrs. Bess Hardesty, of Kingwood.
Mrs. Carl Burgy and Mrs. Mary Howell Birch of Parkersburg were the Sunday guests of Mrs. Valentine.
Mrs. Dorethys Jonas of Taitt Hill spent Thursday visiting friends here.
R. C. Jackson and F. H. Phillips were business visitors in Harrisville Wednesday.
Mrs. Maud Hamilton, of Parkersburg was the dinner guest Sunday at the home of Dr. E. H. Douglass.
Miss Martha Sprout spent the week end at her home at Walker.
Charles Wilson, of Pennsboro and Minor Carel of Cairo, county road supervisors, were business visitors here Friday.

Cisco Farm Woman's Club
The Farm Woman's Club met at the home of the president, Mrs. O. C. Beckner, March 15th.
A song, "Sweet Hour of Prayer," was sung by the group. Scripture lesson, I Samuel 1-30 verses was read by Mrs. Grant Marshall. Prayers were led by Mrs. C. A. Marshall and Miss Cora Weaver. A reading, "Happiness" was read by Miss Anna Riddle. "Keeping With God", a poem, was read by Mrs. C. C. Jackson.
After this devotional service, the lesson, "Social Justice in Country Life" was discussed by the members.
When the business meeting had adjourned, an egg hunt was conducted by Mr. Beckner. The prize went to Mrs. C. A. Marshall for finding the greatest number of eggs.
Several club members bought Easter seals from Miss Riddle, the proceeds going to crippled children.
Delightful refreshments were served to the following: Mrs. C. C. Jackson, Mrs. M. J. Jackson, Mrs. C. A. Marshall, Miss Cora Weaver, Mr. O. C. Beckner, Jane Alice Beckner, Miss Anna Riddle, Mrs. Grant Marshall and the hostess, Mrs. O. C. Beckner.
The April meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. M. J. Jackson and all members are urged to attend.
Petroleum
Thursday evening the Senior class of Cairo high school presented its annual class play entitled "Young Dr. Young," in which Johnnie Wyatt, of Petroleum, played the leading role.
The Ladies' Aid society will meet Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. W. A. Thrash with Mrs. L. W. McFarland and Mrs. C. W. Thrash acting as hostesses.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Netser, of Parkersburg, and Miss Icy Netser, of Harrisville, were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Netser.
Miss Virginia Douglass and Mrs. Louise McClaskey and son, Carl, were guests of friends in Parkersburg, Saturday.
Miss Eleanor Waggoner, grade teacher of the Volcano school, spent the week end with her mother at Weston.
Mrs. Cora Jackson spent the past week with her mother, Mrs. Agnes Kyger, of Boaz.

Mellin
Aged Horse Dies
Mr. J. N. Eddy, deceased, raised this mare from morgan stock. She was coming thirty-four years old this spring. She was a pet and a loved old faithful friend, who served her master well. Before the death of Mr. Eddy he requested that this mare should be kept on the place until her death and then be buried on the farm, and this request has been fulfilled by his sons, who found their old friend dead Sunday morning.
Mr. Floyd Ayers is back in this community.
Mrs. Delbert Kerns is at the home of her mother, Mrs. C. A. Williams. Mrs. Williams has been on the sick list.
Mr. C. A. Williams has bought a new horse.
The Mellin schoolboys of Mellin are repairing the road what they can. We are sure those boys will grow up to vote a good republican [sic] ticket.

Mrs. Pearley Michaels and little son, Billy Lee, of Parkersburg, were at Mellin over the week end the guests of Mrs. C. T. Moore...
Mr. and Mrs. George Evans, of Parkersburg, recently visited for a day at Cisco with Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Moore.
Mellin
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Echard and their daughter, Twyla, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Weaver spent Easter Sunday at the home of Mr. Sampson Moore.
Mr. and Mrs. Harley Haugh and family have moved into the Michael property.
Mrs. C. A. Moore, who has been sick for sometime, is not very much better at this writing.
The U. B. Sunday school at this place is having a wonderful attendance at this time. We still remember the two girls who started this Sunday School some years ago. They sure made their efforts bring a wonderful success. Mr. and Mrs. Berkey Echard are the proud parents of a ten an [sic] a half pound baby boy.

Mrs. H. C. Netser was hostess to the Farm Woman's club when it met at the club room Tuesday afternoon. The meeting opened with a song, "Lead Kindly Light." The scripture was read by Mrs. Flora Lanning, followed by the Lord's prayer which was repeated in unison. Mrs. Gertrude Roberts was leader with the topic for discussion being "Foods to Keep the Family Fit." After a brief business meeting delicious refreshments were served to: Mrs. F. R. Dotson, Mrs. Sally Thrash, Mrs. A. B. Valentine, Mrs. Flora Lanning, Mrs. Ara Valentine, Mrs. Lucy Jonas, Mrs. Cora Jackson, Mrs. Ruben Orman, Mrs. Marguerite Thrash, Mrs. Gertrude Roberts, Mrs. Mary Lib Kibbee, Miss Elsie Willis and the hostess Mrs. H. C. Netser.
4-H Club
The 4-H club held its regular meeting Tuesday evening at the home of J. W. Goff. Miss Wilma Boston, president, was leader for the meeting and members present were: Misses Wilma and Mildred Boston, James and Junior Dotson, John and Donald Kirkpatrick, Louise and Ralph Roberts, and Dale Howell.
Entertains Friends
Hobert Pepper, of Washington, D.C., who is spending the Easter vacation here, entertained a small group of his friends at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Jonas, Saturday evening. The evening was spent in music and games. Refreshments were served to Miss Kathryn Schrewes of Lumberport, Miss Evelyn Akers, Miss Louise Roberts, Miss Reva Phillips, Ralph Roberts, Dale Howell, John Wyatt and Hobert Pepper.

Rusk Farm Woman's Club
The Rusk Farm Woman's Club met at the home of Mrs. Eva Conoway at Elm Run on Friday afternoon, April 5 for their regular meeting. The meeting was called to order by the president, Bessie Phillips, and the opening song was "My Faith Looks Up To Thee." Scripture reading by Winnie Simmons, prayer by Bina Dulaney, song, America, poem, read by Mrs. Daisy Marshall. All business was dispensed with and refreshments were served to following members: Mrs. Daisy Marshall, Mable Maze, Bina Dulaney, Eva Lewis, Bessie Phillips, Iwana Mason, Edna Cain, Ell[a?] Swisher, Ruby Turner, Winnie Simmons and visitors were Mrs. Joe Donnelly and Mrs. Grant Marshall. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Daisy Marshall on Friday, May 3rd.

John D. Lanham, of Rusk, has filed as a candidate for the Democratic nomination for sheriff. He is an excellent citizen, well qualified for the position.

Mrs. Jackson Ill
Mrs. Ira Jackson, living on Gillespie Run, near Mellin, is on the sick list. She has been quite sick for some days past.
Operated Upon
Mrs. S. W. Kerns, of McFarland was taken in an ambulance to Parkersburg on Monday and underwent a surgical operation for sinus trouble in one of the hospitals in that city. She was taken to her home that evening, and is resting easier since the operation.

Mrs. C. R. Maze, of rural route one, Petroleum, who has been a patient for more than two weeks in St. Joseph's hospital, Parkersburg, is responding nicely to the treatments she is receiving, and is beginning to improve.
Lucky Fisherman
Herman Warner, of rural route one, Petroleum, spent some days at Durbin, in Pocahontas county, where he was fishing. On his return home he reported as having caught twenty-seven fine trout.
While Mr. Warner was on his fishing trip his wife visited at Auburn with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bode.

The monthly meeting of the Cisco Farm Women's Club was held at the home of Mrs. Marella Jackson.

After the business session, the recreation was led by Mrs. Grant Marshall.

Mrs. John Cain Improves
Mrs. John Cain was able to leave St. Joseph's hospital, Parkersburg last Saturday and return to her home on rural route one, Petroleum.
Mrs. Cain had been in Parkersburg for several days, a patient in St. Joseph's hospital. She was operated upon, and continues to recover in a satisfactory manner.

Mrs. Forrest Powell is very ill from ear trouble. She was at Parkersburg one day last week to see an Ear Specialist.
Mrs. Lelia Haugh is one the sick list.
Miss Rosa Powell, daughter of Forrest Powell, received a very serious burn after getting on fire one morning last week.
The Mellin School children went on a picnic, a weiner roast, also a marshmellow [sic] roast last Hhursday [sic].

T. O. Mason, employee of the Kelley Construction company, working in the Clarksburg district, was at Cisco over Sunday to visit with home folks.

McGinnis Rig Up
The rig at the location on the Emery McGinnis farm on Silver Run has been completed for the well which R. C. Jackson, of Petroleum, will drill.
A Saw Mill Set
A saw mill is now located on the R. E. Cain farm on rural route one, Petroleum, and prepared to saw up timber.
Carl Wilson of St. Marys, owns the mill and is in charge of the mill set.
Met At Cain Home
The Rusk Farm Woman's Club held the regular meeting on Friday of last week at the home of Mrs. Wilbur Cain, on rural route one, Petroleum. Miss Freda Cain was leader of the lesson study. The club plans to establish a library. The committee reported the purchase of one new book, one of Grace Livingston Hill's works.
After adjournment, the hostesses, Mrs. Cain and Mrs. James Cantwell, served refreshments.

Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Varner celebrated their forty-third wedding anniversary, Thursday at their home near Petroleum. The couple were married at Parkersburg, July 4, 1897. Mrs. Varner before her marriage was Miss Elizabeth Harris. Mr. and Mrs. Varner are the parents of 16 children, several of whom gathered at the Varner home July 4 to enjoy a picnic lunch. To Have Social
The Epworth League society will sponsor an ice cream social which will be given on the church lawn Saturday evening, July 13. The public is invited to attend. The proceeds will be used for the benefit of the league.

Fatal Accident
Death from a severed artery, sustained when the car in which she was riding plunged over an embankment in Ritchie county, took the life of Mrs. Lafe Jenkins, 32, of Macfarlan, Monday.
At the wheel of the machine was Mr. Jenkins who escaped with minor injuries. Mrs. Jenkins was badly cut about her body and legs.
State Trooper R. E. Boyles, of Harrisville, reported the accident occurred on Laurel Run in Murphy district, and that Mrs. Jenkins was pinned under the automobile when it left the highway to plunge over a 60 foot high embankment.
The couple had driven to the home of friends on Laurel creek and were en route home when the accident occurred, according to police. No inquest was deemed necessary by Dr. T. W. Keith, Ritchie county coroner.
Mrs. Jenkins is survived by four children. She was the daughter of Walter Moore and the late Mrs. Moore, whose death occurred four years ago, also in an automobile accident.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday for Mrs. Jenkins, with burial in the Nutter cemetery on the Staunton turnpike.

The revival meeting closed at North Fork Baptist church, with seven souls saved and spiritual interest greatly revived among the members. Rev. Andrew Moats, of Parkersburg, held the meeting.

Mrs. Persis Quick and sons Wiley, Jack and Joe, and Harold Wright attended their family reunion at Marietta, Sunday.
Mrs. Grace Middleton and two daughters, Mary Lee and Kathaleen, Miss Maynell Lewis and Arthur Moats motored to Mansfield, Ohio, Saturday and returned Sunday. Mrs. Middleton's other daughter, Pauline, accompanied them home, she has been there some time visiting.

Taking Bible Studies
Rev. Clifford Phillips, pastor of the Rusk M. P. church circuit, went to Buckhannon the first of the week, to remain there for two weeks. He is taking a special course in ministerial work, the two week's course being given in the College.
Continues To Improve
Mrs. John Cain, of Racy, continues to improve in a very satisfactory way. She recently returned to her home, after being a patient for some time in St. Joseph's hospital. She underwent a surgical operation while a hospital patient.

Ladies' Aid Meets
Mrs. R. C. Jackson entertained the members of the Ladies' Aid Society Thursday afternoon. The meeting was opened at 2 o'clock by a song, "Stand Up For Jesus." Mrs. F. M. Nester read the scripture which was followed by a prayer by the Rev. Loring Howell.
During the business session plans were made for an ice cream social which will be held on the church lawn Saturday evening, September 7. Two new members, Mrs. J. W. Goff and Mrs. Louise McClaskey, were taken into the society. At the close of the program the annual election of officers was held. Mrs. F. M. Netser was reelected president; Mrs. Gertrude Roberts, first vice president; Mrs. W. A. Thrash second vice president; Mrs. S. R. Curry, secretary; Mrs. H. C. Netser, treasurer.
At this time committee chairmen were appointed and are as follows: Program committee, Mrs. Gertrude Roberts; membership Mrs. Frank Phillips; sick, Mrs. W. A. Thrash; flower, Mrs. Vincent Kibbee.

Racy News
Ted Coberley, of Parkersburg, who is studying for a minister, is holding a two weeks Bible school at North Fork. Mr. Coberley preached for us on Sunday morning and night and we think he is a fine boy and going to do big things for the Lord.
The Choir has been reorganized and is doing good with Wiley Quick as director.
Miss Arlene Kerns, of Parkersburg spent the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Kerns.
Miss Maynell Lewis is visiting friends in Parkersburg this week.
The Ladies Mission Circle voted to go to Grantsville, August 17, to spend a day with Mr. and Mrs. Torea Morrison and have a picnic. There was only a few went, they are as follows; Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Bennett and son, Eugene; Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Mason; Mr. Ted Coberley; Mr. Roy Parks, Mrs. Persis Quick and sons, Jack and Joe. All reported a fine time.
Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Middleton left Thursday morning for Fairmont for a visit with friends but were called back Sunday by the serious illness of Mrs. Middleton's grandmother, Mrs. Putnam, who is ninety-two years old. Mrs. Putnam was taken to St. Joseph's hospital and treated for kidney gravel and is much better.

Null Reunion
The 15th Annual Reunion of the Null family was held Sunday, August 28, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pribble at Macfarlan and brought a large gathering of relatives and friends together for an all day picnic.
The business meeting was called to order by the Vice President Earl Brown. Minutes of last reunion were read.
Officers elected were, president Henry Null; vice president, Flora Lieving, secretary and treasurer, Ora M. Pribble.
The picnic was served at noon with the blessing offered by Mrs. B. L. Duty. The 1941 reunion will be held the fourth Sunday in August at Washington Inn.

Beckner Reunion
The twelfth annual reunion of the Beckner family was held Sunday, September first in Belington City park, Belington, W. Va. Approximately one hundred and eighty persons were in attendance, the descendants of Allen and Martha Holmes Beckner having united with the Beckners of Belington and vicinity in this gala occasion.
Great preparation had been made by the ladies of Belington and at noon the Clan suurounded [sic] long park tables upon which was set a feast fit for a king. Grant H. Beckner, of Nobe, Chaplain of the reunion association, invoked God's blessing upon the assembly and the "onslaught" began.
Following dinner, the association was called to order by the president, R. S. Beckner of Parkersburg. An address of welcome was given by Miss Louise Beckner of Belington.
A humorous recitation "My Family's Family Tree", was given by Jean Beckner of Cincinnati, Ohio.
The president appointed D. L. Beckner of Carolina, W.Va., D. L. Beckner of Petroleum, W. Va., and Carl Beckner of Smithville on the committee to nominate officers and arrange a place for the 1941 reunion.
Minutes of the 1939 reunion held at the D. L. Beckner home, Petroleum, were read and accepted.
The secretary read a memorial to the four members of the clan who had passed on during the past year. They were: Martin Luther Plott, Lebanon, Ind.; Spurgeon M. Beckner, Easton, Md.; Mrs. Marjorie Beckner Shields of Petroleum, and Judge N. A. Beckner of Clifton Forge, Va.
Little Miss Nina Lee Poling of Philippi recited and her sister, Amelia Ann Poling sang.
A beautifully decorated cake, the gift of Grant H. Beckner of Nobe, was awarded to Jefferson D. Collett of Hambleton, W. Va., the oldest member of the clan present at the reunion.
Introductions were made and snapshots of various groups were taken.
The nominating and arrangements committee announced the selection of the D. L. Beckner home at Petroleum as the meeting place for the 1941 reunion and proposed that the present officers be retained for another year as follows: President, Ralph Beckner, Parkersburg; Vice-President, Harry A. Beckner, Chester; Secretary, Mrs. Rebecca R. Beckner, Cincinnati, Ohio; Chaplain, Grant H. Beckner, Nobe, W. Va. The motion carried.
Musical numbers were rendered by the "Marion County Brier Jumpers."
After thanking the Belington Beckners for their hospitality, the president called upon D. L. Beckner to lead in the closing hymn, "Take The Name of Jesus With You." We were dismissed by the Rev. Jerome Poling of Belington.
Photographs were made by C. H. Davies of Parkersburg and ice cream was served to the crowd.
The president then distributed balloons and bags of marbles to the children and W. Va. road maps to the adults. We then left Belington after one of the most pleasant reunions we have ever had.

Club Meeting
Petroleum.--The members of the Petroleum Farm Women's club met Tuesday at the home of Mrs. E. R. Dotson. The meeting opened at 10 o'clock with a song led by Miss Edna Jenkins. After a short devotion, the lesson concerning the use of electricity was discussed by the members. Mrs. E. R. Dotson, who had represented the club at State camp at Jackson's Mill gave an interesting report of her activities during camp.
The club voted to join the friendship circle with each member paying a small sum to be used to help war refugees. The October meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Ara Valentine and will begin with a covered dish dinner at noon.

Mrs. H. P. Williamson and daughter, Elma, who have been at Steubenville, Ohio, for some time with Mrs. Williamson's daughter, Ruth, have returned home. They reported that Ruth was somewhat better.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Echard are spending a few days in Parkersburg with friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Badgett and family of Akron, Ohio, were visiting with her home folks, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Eddy over Sunday.
Miss Mildred Williamson is visiting her sister, Miss Ruth Williamson who is in a hospital at Steubenville, Ohio.
Mr. James Holdsclaw who is a Penicostal [sic] preacher is holding protracted meeting at the Oxbow school house.
Mrs. Quick Improves
Mrs. John Quick was able to leave St. Joseph's hospital, Parkersburg, last week, and go to her home on rural ruote [sic] one, Petroleum. She was a hospital patient for three weeks underwent a major surgical operation and continues to recover satisfactorily.

Ralph Jackson Honored
Petroleum, Oct.10--Mrs. R. C. Jackson entertained a large group of friends Monday evening in honor of the birthday anniversary of her husband, Ralph Jackson. At eight o'clock the guests who had gathered in the yard entered the house singing, "Happy Birthday to You," completely surprising the honored guest. Memorial Services
The Rusk K. of P. lodge No. 45 held Memorial services on Sunday afternoon at Rusk Chapel, the members of the order attending in a body. The services were well attended by the people of Rusk.
Home From Hospital
Mrs. Everet Layfield has returned to her home on Gillespie near Mellin. She was a patient for several days in St. Josephs' hospital, where two surgical operations were performed.
Mrs. Layfield is recovering satisfactorily at this time.
Petroleum
The Ladies Aid society will meet Thursday afternoon a[t] two o'clock at the home of Mrs. Frank Phillips.
Oliver Warner, track foreman for the B. & O. railroad has been ill at his home suffering from an attack of angina pectoris. His condition is slightly improved at this time.
Robert Wyatt has moved his family from Taitt Hill to the house recently vacated by Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur McFarland.
Mr. and Mrs.Richard Skagg of Marlinton arrived here Sunday to spend a few days with the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Curry.
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Boston and son Jim, Misses Opal and Henrietta Miller and George Lee, of Route 1, were the recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Robinson.
Miss Florence Netser, of Rogers, Arkansas, who has been visiting relatives in Ritchie county for the past several weeks was the guest of her brother, F. M. Netser, Friday and Saturday. Miss Netser will return to her home in Arkansas soon.

Had Quilting
The Cisco Farm Woman's Club had a quilting on Tuesday at the home of Mrs. W. F. Valentine, living on rural route two, Petroleum. The morning hours were spent in quilting with a covered dish dinner at the noon hour.
The business session was held in the afternoon, with Mrs. E. R. Dotson presiding.
Visited at Rusk
Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Lewis, of Akron, Ohio, were at Rusk on Saturday and Sunday and visited at the home of the former's mother, Mrs. Martha Lewis.
Announce Birth
Born, last Saturday, to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Nutt, of Cisco, a daughter. This is the second heir and weighs seven and a half pounds.
Has Broken Leg
On last Saturday while Clyde Heater, of rural route one, Petroleum, was working at the saw mill on his farm he met with a bad accident, having his leg broken, the bone being broken in two places.
Mr. Heater was taken to Parkersburg, where he was admitted a patient in St. Joseph's hospital.

Mrs. H. P. Williamson, who has been staying with her daughter, Miss Ruth Williamson at Stubensville for some time is home again. Ruth is still very poorly.

Mr. and Mrs. James Holdsclaw and Kenneth Powell have moved in with Carl Echard and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cinchinie have moved in the little house on the Michael farm at this place.

Farm Club Meets
On Tuesday afternoon, November 12, the Rusk Farm Woman's Club met at the home of Mrs. Winnie Simmons for their regular monthly meeting. The meeting was opened by singing "God Bless America." Scripture reading by Mrs. Mason. Prayer by Rev. Soper. Song, "The Vacant Chair". General business of the club disposed. Officers for the coming year were elected as follows:

Plans for Christmas were made. Closing song, "Let's All Get Together", was sung and meeting adjonrned [sic]. E. Conaway, Claudia Phillips, and little Loreda Moore, granddaughter of Mrs. Marshall. The next meeting will be December 6th.
Had Paralytic Stroke
Ritchie county relatives of Leonard Kerns, of Parkersburg, received word last week that he had been stricken with paralysis, and was in a serious condition. He had the stroke on Wednesday.
Mr. Kerns is a brother of Charlie Kerns, of Rusk, and a nephew of C. A. Kerns, also of Rusk.

Mrs. John Roberts, Sr., was honored on her birthday anniversary Monday evening when Miss Lillian Rutherford entertained a number of friends at the Roberts home.

E. Nuzum, who will spend two months visiting her three sons who live in California.

Has Meeting
On Thursday afternoon of last week the monthly meeting of the Rusk Farm Woman's Club was held, the meeting being at the Lodge Hall. A business session was held, the president, Mrs. Bessie Phillips, presiding.
A Christmas program was given, appreciated by all, and Santa Clause [sic] appeared on the scene at an opportune time. The members exchanged gifts.
Visited With Brother
Miss Eleanor Douglass, of Petroleum, was at Champaign, Illinois, for a few days visit with her brother, Paul Douglass. He is [in] the U. S. Army, stationed at Chanute Field.
Had Guests
Mr. and Mrs. Glen Kerns and their two daughters and Nell Jane Kerns, of Parkersburg, were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Kerns at Rusk.
Is Very Ill
Mrs. Agnes Putnam, who lives at Cisco, is ill and has been a very sick woman, having a complication of ailments.
Mrs. Putnam is past ninety-two years of age. A daughter and a son Mrs. Grace Davis and C. A. Putnam, live with her and take care of her.
Child Has Pneumonia
Zeda Jean Shook, three year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harley Shook, living at Cisco, has pneumonia fever and has been a very sick child. She was taken to Parkersburg and admitted a patient in St. Joseph's hospital.
Besides having pneumonia, she has had abscessed ears, and it was necessary that they be lanced by an ear specialist. Mrs. Shook is in Parkersburg at the hospital with her sick daughter.
Mellin
Saturday, December 14th, their [sic] will be a social at the Mellin school. The money will go for the benefit of the school. Every one come with their pocket books well filled with change.
Mr. and Mrs. Forest Powell are the parents of another big boy. This is their seventh child.
Mr. Raymond Shrader has purchased a car.
Mr. A. B. Shrader has traded his V-8 car for a tractor. Mr. Shrader is going to do some farm business.
Protracted meeting is being held at the Penticostal [sic] church. Rev. Stanley R. Hanby of Lancaster, Ohio is in charge.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Tingler and son are talking of moving in the community.
Mrs. Alice Welch has been working at Forrest Powell's but due to sickness she is now at her sons, Mr. and Mrs. John Welch's.
Mrs. Mary Carpenter is now working for Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Powell's
Christmas will soon be here and lets [sic] all remember the poor and give some poor child something on Christmas morning to make it happy. We must remember that that is what we are in this world mostly for doing kind deeds for others and making are [sic] fellowmen happy.
Mr. Ed Wilson is very sick.
Mr. and Mrs. Harley Haugh's little son, Rondall, was ill a few days ago.
McFarlan
Mr. Charles Hutchinson is visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Nutter this week.
Mr. Willie Burk is a patient in the St. Joseph's hospital and is improving at this writing.
Mrs. Anna Lamp and her son, Charles, were on a business trip to Harrisville, Tuesday.
Mr. Troxel Swisher was visiting with Mr. S. M. Lamp, Sunday.
The revival at the Oxbow school house closed, Sunday night, reporting about five conversions.
Mr. P. J. Hanlon, who is teaching the Laurel Run school has moved in the Mrs. Clara Overton house on Macfarlan Creek.
Mrs. Jennie Kerns, who has been ill for some time is improving at this writing.
The Macfarlan school is practicing for their Christmas program.
Miss Sylvia Stull, of Petroleum, was visiting with Miss Ethel Lamp, Tuesday night.

Mr. George Pribble is keeping Burks' place while Mr. Burk is in the hospital. Mr. Burk is improving some.
Mr. Carl Swisher has a very sick child.
Mr. and Mrs. Thurl Seese, of Brohard, were visiting with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Lamp.
Mrs. Fanie Easton and son, Dennis, were visiting with Mrs. Maud Sprows Tuesday.
Misses Ethel and Janet and Margie Lamp were visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Port Stull Sunday.
Mr. Thurl Seese, of Brohard, and Mr. Basil Swisher of Laurel Run are building a drilling machine to drill water wells with.
Miss Velma and Sylvia Stull of Petroleum Route 1, were visiting with Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Lamp Sunday afternoon.
