Teachers open the door, but you enter by yourself.

-Anonymous

Welcome ! This portfolio serves as the conclusion to my MAED English Education program. After spending five years preparing to become a teacher, I have come to form my own set of opinions and beliefs about the profession, as well as about myself as a teacher. I truly believe that teaching is like opening doors. As teachers, we help students locate the doors that will lead them to discover, learn, and become successful. We open the door by providing the scaffolding a student needs and by guiding them to where they need to be. We can provide students with direction and guidance, but it is the student who must go through the door alone. Students are responsible for the learnng that takes place beyond a given door and we must prepare students for everything they need in order to go through that door to the next part of their life or education. As teachers we must help our students navigate and explore their own learning and help them open the doors that lead to their successes as learners, as students, and as individuals.

I believe that life is a series of doors. Just as the famous proverb states, when one door closes, another opens; as I close the door on my graduate studies, I am opening the door to my teaching career. I invite you to take a look at my portfolio and see all the doors I have travelled through to get here today.
