The Renaissance Marriage

Weddings in Renaissance England shared many similarities with modern weddings.  Many wedding traditions still practiced today originated during the Renaissance.  Some of these customs included;  engagement jewelry, a church ceremony including the exchange of rings and vows, brides wearing and carrying flowers, and the creation of the wedding cake as we know it today.
Weddings varied greatly between the social classes and regions, so generalizing these areas to fit all aspects of marriages during the Renaissance is next to impossible.  This page is intended to give a better understanding of what marriages were like during the Renaissance.
