americorps

The AmeriCorps offers three different options to prospective volunteers. These options are:

  • AmeriCorps State and National
  • AmeriCorps VISTA
  • AmeriCorps NCCC

State and National

AmeriCorps State and National is the largest of the three AmeriCorps programs. This program provides funds to local and national organizations and agencies to tackle crucial needs in the community such as education, public safety, health and the environment.

VISTA

AmeriCorps VISTA specifically aims to fight poverty. VISTA members commit to serve full-time for a year at a nonprofit organization or local government agency. At these agencies, volunteers work to fight illiteracy, improve health services, create businesses, strengthen community groups, etc. The goal is to ultimately fight poverty in the community and surrounding neighborhoods.

NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps)

AmeriCorps NCCC targets young civilians ages 18-24. AmeriCorps NCCC aims to strengthen communities and to develop leaders through service. In partnership with various organizations, volunteers complete service projects throughout the region they are assigned.

Note: Not only is the AmeriCorps a great opportunity post-graduation, but President Obama is also calling all citizens to serve others by volunteering. Check out his website Serve.gov for more volunteering opportunities like AmeriCorps.
