Community Involvement
"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."
Winston Churchill
I believe that it is important to serve the community outside of the classroom. During graduate school, I embraced community involvement in Montgomery County, Virginia. I enjoy teaching, supporting, and helping young people of all ages.
In October of 2007, I attended a Homecoming football game to support the student athletes and the Homecoming court participants that I was teaching at the time. A student in my English senior honors course was crowned Homecoming Queen 2007.

I participated in volleyball and basketball in the Southwest Virginia Special Olympics for a year and a half. During this time, I was able to work and develop close relationships with both students who attended the local high schools and members of the larger community.

Last summer, I volunteered to teach fifth graders in Sunday school at Blacksburg Baptist Church. Although I am a secondary educator, this experience helped me develop effective classroom management skills. I love the energy children have, and I enjoyed working with younger learners.
