This type of material could be used frequently as a way of presenting current, international events (as well as events relating only to specific Spanish-speaking countries) to students in an entirely authentic manner. The news reports could be incorporated into a larger news-related thematic unit. The reports could be models for the students to follow in making their own mock newscasts in Spanish.

This specific example is a story about the current generation’s love of technology and the internet in Spain. The clip could be used for any level Spanish class, but the questions listed below have a Spanish 3 class in mind.

Interpretive - The students could be shown the whole piece and probed/prompted on what they thought it was about.
          -What words did you recognize?
               -Were there cognates?
-What do you think that article was about?
               -Why do you think that?
-Where do you think this story takes place?
               -Why?

Interpersonal – Students discuss the article (in Spanish) in groups using the questions below as topic-starters
-Do you think this story could have taken place here?
               -Do you use technology often?
-Do you use any of the things mentioned in the clip?
-Are you surprised that other countries use as much technology as we do?
               -Why/why not?

Presentational – Students (in groups) write and present a 60 second newscast describing the use of technology in their age group and present it to the class. One person will be the reporter and others will have parts as interviewees during the oral part of the presentation.

Extension – Students compare the video newscast with the written version on the website.
