Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a dress code? What should I wear?
There is no dress code, but it is suggested that guests dress appropriately for a dance. Traditionally the event is semi-formal. While some guests may choose to wear coat and tie, guests are only expected to look presentable as they are in a public setting.

Do I need a date?
Nope. Many guests have a date for the dance, but students also come with a group of friends. It is a great opportunity to meet new people.

What does my ticket cover?
Each ticket is good for one person to attend on Saturday night.

Who is invited? Can I attend the dance?
All students at Virginia Tech are invited to attend -- no special invitation is needed. See the Tickets page for ticket information.

What kind of music and dancing will be featured?
The featured band is the The Dickens. The Dickens mix up classic R&B, classic and modern rock, 80s retro, reggae, old skool and current hip-hop, and everything in between. From Bob Marley to the Beastie Boys, Otis Redding to Outkast, the Stones to Snoop, Stevie Wonder to Sublime, it’s a non-stop party. They often play extended dance medleys without a break, blending hit songs into more hit songs, keeping the audience guessing, the energy level high and the dance floor full.

Some guy tried to sell me tickets. Are these real tickets?
In addition to the ticket office, members of the German Club are also selling tickets. If you know a member of the German Club, it may be convenient for you to get tickets through him.

What is the German Club? Can I join?
The German Club is the oldest fraternal organization at Virginia Tech. Founded originally as a dancing club to provide social events for the University, today the organization focuses on Leadership, Service, and Fellowship. The Midwinters Dance is a tradition of the German Club for over one hundred years. For more information about the German Club, and how to join, visit the German Club website.
