Assistant Professor: Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Falls Church, VA. Aug. 2005- present Co-Director of the Virginia Tech Transportation Operations and Optimization Laboratory (V-TOOL) Courses Transportation Networks Analysis Civil Infrastructure Systems Analysis Transportation Risk, Reliability, and Security Sponsored Research Critical Infrastructure Resilience in Danville, Virginia – Fall 2005, funded by the City of Danville This multi-disciplinary study involved analyzing the transportation, power, water, and communications infrastructure for multi-hazard vulnerabilities, dependencies, and interdependencies. Dr. Murray-Tuite led the transportation sector analysis. Evaluation of Strategies to Increase Transportation System Resilience to Congestion Caused by Incidents – Aug 2006 – July 2007, funded by the Mid-Atlantic University Transportation Center This project investigates incident management, emergency response, demand management, information provision, and special infrastructure use strategies for traffic accidents and examines their efficacy for reducing congestion and restoration of the road to its previous operational state. Senior Consultant: Booz Allen Hamilton, Falls Church, VA. Sept. 2003 – July 2005. For government and commercial clients, classified and proprietary projects included developing metrics and indices, creating risk calculation and risk aggregation methodologies, developing multi-objective decision making strategies, modeling and analyzing infrastructure dependencies and interdependencies, designing Internet traffic prediction models, identifying likely paths in multiple types of networks, and authoring and delivering papers and briefings. Additional tasks included managing junior staff, authoring successful technical approaches of proposals, and developing capabilities and service offerings.
