Gang Green Update
My current team "Gang Green" ended it's season after a loss in the second round of the playoffs
to the eventual league champion, RJ's, 5-2. We advanced to the second round by
beating the third-seeded Hooters team 7-5.
Gang Green is competing in the inagural season of the Ice Palace Adult Hockey
League in York County, VA. We finished the regular season at 13-17, which was good enough for
fourth place in the league.
3/16 Game:
Gang Green won it's second consecutive game 4-2 over the Blue team, the Bombers.
After Blue picked up the first goal of the game, Scott Burg tied the game with a goal
assisted by Valeri Frolov and Tom Litchfield to give a 1-1 score after one period. Both teams
scored one goal in the second period, with Jamie Clarke scoring for Gang Green assisted
by Burg. Olaf Storaasli broke the 2-2 tie half way through the third period on an
unassisted goal to give Gang Green the lead for good at 3-2. Charlie Brewer sealed the game
with a breakaway goal assisted by Ron Dressler, making it a 4-2 game. Once again, Gang Green
poured the shots on net picking up 45, while the Bombers managed to get 37 on Gang Green
netminder Dave Jutton. The game was the final regular season meeting between Gang Green
and the Bombers, with Gang Green winning all six contests.
3/18 Game:
Team Gang Green continued on it's recent hot streak by beating the first place team
in the league, the Brew Crew, 4-2. It was the first time Gang Green has beaten the Brew Crew
this season, as it lost the previous five meetings between the two teams. After the Brew Crew scored
the first goal of the game during the first period, Jim Brown tied the score at 1-1
on a tip in goal off a shot from Olaf Storaasli. Early in the second period, Shaun Hereld powered
a slapshot past the Red goalie to put Gang Green up 2-1. Three minutes later Scott Burg
scored to make it a 3-1 game, assisted by Storaasli. Midway through the second period, Storaasli
scored a shorthanded goal on a breakaway while the Brew Crew had a two man advantage,
assisted by Hereld. The Brew Crew could only cut the lead to 4-2 in the third period
as Gang Green goalie Dave Jutton turned away 31 of the 33 shots he faced while Gang Green had
37 total shots.
3/25 Game:
Gang Green is carrying alot of momentum going into the playoffs, winning it's last four games
including a 7-4 victory over the hottest team in the league Hooters on Tuesday. Gang Green
opened scoring during the first minute of the game with a Chris Osiadlo goal from Olaf Storaasli.
A few minutes later Storaasli scored from Scott Burg and Osiadlo. Burg put one past the
Hooters goalie assisted by Storaasli and Osiadlo to give Gang Green a 3-1 lead after one period.
During the second period, Tom Litchfield fired one in assisted by Charlie Brewer and Jim Brown.
Moments later, Brewer scored assisted by Litchfield and Valeri Frolov, to give Gang Green
a commanding 5-1 lead after two periods of play. In the third period Hooters scored two quick
goals to cut the lead to 5-3 before Burg netted his second
goal of the game, and fifth over the last four games, assited by Osiadlo. During the final
few minutes Litchfield scored his second goal of the game assisted by Ron Dressler and Frolov
to make it a 7-3 game. Hooters scored a meaningless goal during the waning seconds, but it wasn't
enough as Gang Green won it's final regular season game 7-4.
First Round of Playoffs, 4/7
Gang Green, the fourth seed, knocked off Hooters, the third seed, during the first
round of the playoffs, 7-5.
Second Round of Playoffs, 4/8
Gang Green lost a tough fought game 5-2 to the eventual league champion, RJ's. After RJ's jumped
out to a 1-0 lead, Olaf Storaasli scored an unassisted goal to tie the game at 1-1. Shaun
Hereld then netted an unassisted goal, before RJ's tied the score at 2-2 after two periods.
RJ's scored a power play goal after some controversial penalties to take the lead for good
at 3-2. RJ's also scored another goal late in the third and an empty net goal with less
than a minute to play to give the final score of 5-2. RJ's advanced into the finals
to take on the Brew Crew.
