The Ultimate Character List



-Atiaran- The mother of Lena, wife of Trell. A very troubled woman. First mentioned in Chapter 5 of Lord Foul's Bane. First appears in Chapter 6. Did not finish study at the Loresraat. After Covenant rapes Lena, she begins to hate Covenant with a passion. She leads Covenant to Revelstone just because its her duty. She stops halfway and gives Covenant to Foamfollower, but she swares to get revenge. Later she tries to summon Covenant using Lore she learned, but fails and instead summons Hile Troy. She dies in the summoning. Later shows up as a ghost in Chapter 14 of The Wounded Land to haunt Covenant.

-Berek Halfhand, High Lord- The Lord-Fatherer, Earthfriend, Half-hand, Heartthew, and the person who made the Staff of Law. Legend Character. First mentioned in Chapter 4 of Lord Foul's Bane. The first in the line of the Old Lords. Makes a brief cameo in Chapter 20 of the Power that Preserves. In the Second Chronicles, he is known as the first betrayer, with Covenant being the second.

-Covenant, Joan Macht- Thomas Covenant's Wife. She divorces Covenant before the story takes place because he has leprocy and fears the health of their son. First mentioned in Chapter 1 of Lord Foul's Bane. First speaks in Chapter 2 of Illearth War. She calls Covenant because she's "lonely". First appears in Chapter 3 of The Wounded Land.
-Covenant, Roger- Thomas Covenant's Son. First mentioned in Chapter 1 of Lord Foul's Bane. Has no lines and does not appear once in the series. Half the time you don't even remember he exists.
-Covenant, Thomas- The Main Character. Leper. In each chapter of the series he either gets more depressed, more bitter, or a new title/nickname. Titles in turn make him more depressed and bitter. Rapes Lena in Chapter 7 of Lord Foul's Bane. Summoned to the Land in Chapter 3 of Lord Fouls Bane, Chapter 3 of The Illearth War, Chapter 2 of The Power That Preserves, Chapter 5 of The Power the Preserves, and in Chapter 4 of The Wounded Land. Dies in Chapter 19 of White Gold Wielder.

-Damelon Giantfriend, High Lord-Son of Berek. First mensioned by Atiaran in Chapter 8 of Lord Foul's Bane. Legend Character. Makes a brief cameo with other Old Lords at the end of the first series.

-Foul, Lord- The Evil Bad Guy of the Series. First appears in Chapter 3 of Lord Foul's Bane. No clear physical body. Very bad at prophecies. Is "defeated" in Chapter 20 of The Power That Preserves and again in Chapter 19 of White Gold Wielder.

-Imoiran- A stonedowner mentioned briefly by Lena in Chapter 5 of Lord Foul's Bane. Wife of Tomal. Daughter of Moiran.

-Kevin Landwaster, High Lord- The enactor of that famous Ritual of Desecration that really messed things up for the Land. Son of Loric. Created the Seven Wards of his Lore to be found by the survivors of the Ritual to fight Lord Foul. He is the Lord that the Haruchai swore their lives too. He sent them away before the Ritual was enacted. Legend Character. First mentioned in Chapter 4 of Lord Foul's Bane. First appears in Chapter 25 of The Illearth War when Elena summons him from the Dead to defeat Lord Foul. Little did she know that Kevin is a wuss and he comes back to defeat her, controlled by Lord Foul. Returns with the cameo of other dead guys in Chapter 20 of the Power that Preserves. Returns again in Chapter 15 of White Gold Wielder to have a nice chat with Linden about Covenant's sanity. Rivals only Covenant himself in the field of guilt and depression.

-Lena- Crazy girl from the Land who is made crazy by Covenant. First appears in Chapter 4 of Lord Foul's Bane. Runs into Covenant on Kevin's Watch right after his summoning. Introduces a very confused Covenant to the Land. He returns the favor by raping her in Chapter 7 of Lord Foul's Bane. She was ingaged to Triock before Covenant came along. After the rape, she runs off into the wild an outcast to her society. She is the mother of Elena. Daughter of Trell and Atiaran. She comes back in Chapter 6 of The Power That Preserves. Dies in Chapter 10 of The Power That Preserves. Later shows up as a ghost in Chapter 14 of The Wounded Land to haunt Covenant.
-Loric Vilesilencer, High Lord-Son of Damelon. First mensioned by Atiaran in Chapter 8 of Lord Foul's Bane. Legend Character. Makes a brief cameo with other Old Lords at the end of the first series. His clame to fame was that he rendered the Demondim impotent.

-Moiran- A stonedowner mentioned briefly by Lena in Chapter 5 of Lord Foul's Bane. Mother of Imoiran.
-Murrin- A stonedowner mentioned briefly by Trell in Chapter 6 of Lord Foul's Bane. Husband of Odona.

-Odona- A stonedowner mentioned briefly by Trell in Chapter 6 of Lord Foul's Bane. Wife of Murrin.

-Prothall, High Lord- High Lord of Revelstone in Lord Foul's Bane. First mentioned by Lord Foul in Chapter 3 of Lord Foul's Bane. Appears briefly at the end of Chapter 13 but not until Chapter 14 does he start to play his role in the book. Leads the quest to take back the Staff of Law from Drool Rockworm. He dies sometime after the end of the first book.

-Rockworm, Drool- A Cavewight who causes a lot of trouble in Lord Foul's Bane. First appears in Chapter 3 of Lord Foul's Bane. Controls the Staff of Law and the Illearth Stone. Dies in Chapter 24 of Lord Foul's Bane. A very dumb-witted creature. Later in White Gold Wielder, future cavewights try to resurrect him from the dead, but fail.

-Tomal-A stonedowner mentioned briefly by Lena in Chapter 5 of Lord Foul's Bane. Craftmaster. Husband of Imoiran.
-Trell- The husband of Atiaran and father of Lena. First mentioned in Chapter 5 of Lord Foul's Bane and first appears in Chapter 6. Gravelingas of the rhadhamaerl and of Mithil Stonedown. Loses his daughter Lena after she is raped by Covenant and loses his wife Atiaran sometime before The Illearth War. Not a very happy guy. Runs into Covenant again in Chapter 8 of The Illearth War. Tries to kill Covenant. In Chapter 13 he travels with the Warmark. Follows Covenant because he does not trust Covenant around his Granddaughter Elena. He goes back to Revelstone in Chapter 15 in self-pity. He returns in Chapter 11 of The Power That Preserves, demanding power from Mhoram. In a rage of depression, he tears up the Close. He is stopped by Mhoram and Tohrm but left broken spiritually after the event. I don't think we hear from him again. Later shows up as a ghost in Chapter 14 of The Wounded Land to haunt Covenant.
-Triock-Son of Thuler. First mensioned by Lena in Chapter 7 of Lord Foul's Bane as a Stonedowner who wishes to merry her. After Covenant rapes his girlfriend, he generates a hatred for Covenant that lasts throughout the entire first series. He chases after Covenant in Chapter 8, with the intention to kill him, only to be stopped by Atiaran and the Oath of Peace. Seeing the rapist of his future wife go free, and watching Lena go into madness while she waits for Covenant's return, Triock hatred grows of Covenant grows more and more. In the Illearth War, it is said by Elena, Lena's daughter, that Triock raised her like a father. Triock finally returns in Chapter 5 of The Power that Preserves. He and Saltheart Foamfollower summon Covenant to the Land to defeat Lord Foul for the final battle at the end. Triock gets Covenant's help only because he feels that Covenant is responcible for the Land's problems. He goes off on his own to find a Unfettered one in order to tell High Lord Mhoram that Covenant is in the Land, only to be taken over by a Raver in Chapter 7. The Raver uses Triock to hunt down Covenant and they meet up with him in Chapter 14. Once free of the Raver, Triock attacks Covenant in Chapter 16. He is stopped when Elena's ghost and two Ravers take control of the situation using the Staff of Law and Covenant's ring. Triock attacks Elena to free the whitegold ring, but only to be killed himself.
