Robert "Bobby" Grisso returned to Virginia Tech
in 2001 where he received his bachelor's and master's
in agricultural engineering (AgE) in 1978 and 1980,
respectively. He obtained his doctorate in AgE from
Auburn University in 1985. He was hired at Professional
level and received tenure in 2003.
His extension programming will focus on using precision
farming tools to improve decision making on crop production.
He comes with educational and research experience from
University of Nebraska where he worked on improved pesticide
and anhydrous ammonia application both from the standpoint
of accuracy and uniformity. He was co-director of the
Precision Agriculture task force and has experience
using electrical conductivity measurements to develop
management zones. He has also worked in improving machinery
performance with proper ballast of tractors, increasing
field productivity with proper tire and implement size
selection. He has co-authored more than 60 journal publications
and more than 160 extension related manuscripts. His
research and extension work is cited in more than 100
trade magazines. Grisso teaches the Comprehensive Design for BSE - this provides a capstone
experience for the BSE Seniors. Grisso taught 7 courses
while at UNL and developed two courses, one entitled
"Site-Specific Crop Management" and the other
"Applied Creativity for Technology Systems."
Grisso spent 16 years at the University of Nebraska,
earning full professorial rank in 1996. He has received the
Nebraska Farmer magazine safety award for the Nebraska AgrAbility
project. He was a member of the Turfgrass Science Team that
received the 1999 Herbert H. Davis Special Recognition Award
from the Nebraska Golf Hall of Fame and the team also received
special recognition in 1991 from the Institute of Agriculture
and Natural Resources. Other awards include: Faculty Service
award, University of Nebraska, 1997; Distinguished Service
Award from Nebraska Cooperative Extension Association, Specialist
Section, 1996; Nolan Mitchell Young Extension Worker Award
of the ASAE in 1994; Extension Award of Merit, Gamma Sigma
Delta, 1994, and the Outstanding Young Specialist Award from
The Nebraska Cooperative Extension Association in 1989.
Grisso served on the Board of Trustees for ASABE, elected as anASABE Fellow, and has been recognized with the Standards Developer and Journal Reviewer awards. From 1995-2008 he served as Associate Editor for the Power
and Machinery Division for the Transactions of the ASAE
and Applied Engineering in Agriculture. Grisso has received
honorable mentions in the Paper Awards activity of the
ASAE in both 1988 and 1983. He has also received 24
