Stephen H. Schoenholtz is a professor of forest hydrology and soils in the College of Natural Resources at Virginia Tech. He has also served on the faculty in the College of Forestry at Oregon State University and the College of Forest Resources at Mississippi State University. Dr. Schoenholtz has Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in forest soil science from Virginia Tech and B.S. degrees in forest science and biology from the Pennsylvania State University.
His research focus is the interaction between land management and water and soil resources. Areas of special interest include:
- forest management impacts on water and soil quality
- ecology and management of forested wetlands and riparian zones
- restoration of degraded ecosystems
- biogeochemistry
- criteria and indicators of sustainable forest management
Dr. Schoenholtz is also the director of the Virginia Water Resources Research Center. The center’s mission is to offer research and educational opportunities to water scientists and students, and provide citizens and government leaders with water science information.
He is a member of the Soil Science Society of America, American Society of Agronomy, American Water Resources Association, Society of American Foresters, Society of Wetland Scientists, and Universities Council on Water Resources. |
