Here is a compressed excerpt from the presentation I made for the Multimedia class as a final project. It shows use of animations, timings of slides in the kiosk mode, text effects, and imported images. Some text blocks are actually images made in PhotoShop and imported. (To download, click and hold on the link and choose "Save this Link As" and then select "Source")
Here is a sample slide that shows the different kind of multimedia that you can insert into a PP presentation. The video file is linked, not embedded, so it is included in this .sit file (use Stuffit Expander).
Using Master Slides
Make a new blank slide show. Use the View/Master Slide and insert an image that
will appear on each page.
(Insert/Picture/From File - choose logo.pict)
Now that
image will appear in the same place on every slide. To suppress it for a specific
slide, Format/Background, check the box by "Omit Graphic From Master."
PhotoShop and PowerPoint
You can use the Insert menu to import PhotoShop images into PowerPoint. You can also drag
images between the programs. Open a PS file, select all. Open a blank PP slide. Move the programs
so you can see both the PP and PS window. Use the Move tool in PS, drag the picture into PP.
Word Art Effects
There are some nice effects such as gradients and 3-d you can get to in Word Art - create a piece of word
art. (click the blue A on the bottom menu bar.)
On the Word Art menu, choose 'format word art' then on the fill dropdown
menu, go to fill effects. Under Gradient choose the preset radio button.
There is a big dropdown list with different presets. Each one comes with
different angles, etc. after you do that, try applying some 3d effects. Click the far right tool
on the bottom menu, it looks like a cube. Play with the different effects.
Create your own background
You can make your own background texture. The option to import it is under Format/Background.
There is a blank box with an arrow on it, click to get the Fill Effects option
on the dropdown menu. Choose the texture tab, then pick Other Texture. Supported
file formats are jpgs, gifs and picts. The image you want to use as a texture
should be 59x43 pixels. The picture used should be pretty light if you want
to put text on top of it. I used this image, from the clover made in the PhotoShop
workshop.
Animations and Timings
Insert some text using the text tool on the bottom menu (looks like a piece of paper). Insert some
shapes using the AutoShapes menu. Now, go under Slide Show/Custom Animations. You can set the timing
for each element on a slide, and add effects and sounds to each element.
Tip:don't preview animation effects on text by the word or letter, it takes forever and the stop button doesn't work.
