Room 1 - sculpture, etc.

This first room housed the smaller multimedia sculptures. I like making things from found objects, machine bits, bones, etc.

This piece is called cast up, the heart flops over gasping 'love.' It's about 8 inches high, made of a cow's lower vertabrae, snail shells, bits of glass and clock parts, a silver skeleton, an antique spur shaped like a rooster (given to me by Laura Walker - hi Laura, wherever you are!) and more.

The title was taken from a poem by Lawrence Ferlinghetti

Cast up
the heart flops over
gasping 'Love'
a foolish fish which tries to draw
its breath from flesh of air
And no one there to hear its death
among the sad bushes
where the world rushes by
in a blather of asphalt and delay

~ Lawrence Ferlinghetti

Why? Because...if you look into the throat of the piece, there is a heart-shaped lock. And the little skeleton hanging from the noose has goofy little feet that say "love you" on them. It's the foolishness of exposing yourself when trying to love, the futility, the silently screaming throat that is a tunnel, choked by the heart-shaped lock without a key...

third picture of fenris This is Fenris Bound. He's about a foot-and-a-half long, made from a cow's leg bone and a metal mask. The inside of his head is full of wires and clock parts. This, to me, signifies the time-bound nature of Fenris. He is a Norse diety of sorts, a monster-son of Loki, blood brother of Odin. Fenris was tricked into being bound by the magic harness, Gleipnir. It was predicted that at Ragnarok, the Norse Armageddon, that Fenris would eat the sun and the moon and cause the downfall of the gods. He was tricked by telling him the magic harness was a game to test his strength, that if he couldn't escape he would be released. He agreed, on the condition that one of the gods would put his hand in Fenris' mouth as insurance. The minor god Tyr agreed, and soon became known as "Tyr the one-handed." (Even so, at the end of time Fenris will escape and eat the sun and moon).
