This room was the most problematical. My lanterns really look their best in a dark
room with a candle burning in them so you can see the shadows cast all over,
dancing on the walls and ceiling. But, this venue did not lend itself to live flame.
I substituted xmas lights. The first go-round with these, I started loosening every
third or so bulb, thinking there was too much light. As I went around the room doing this,
I noticed the bulbs getting hotter and hotter. Finally the entire string blew! OK, so
a replacement string was brought in. I never was satisfied with the effect, although
it looked better than these photos really show. These things are notoriously hard to
photograph. Most of them are various figures holding hands and dancing. There are also some
landscape, portrait, and abstract types.
I like the donkey figure in the big lantern. Inspired by Mid-summer Night's Dream.
The large lantern on the left is intended to look like metal flames.
I like the mouse-guy on the second-from-right lantern. I have lots of recurring
characters on my lanterns. Many of them have horns, tails, and other features some
folks call "demonic." I am certainly not a satanist, but I am trying to make lanterns
without quite so many 'demons.' I enjoy the silly animal figures almost as much.
I like the tall lantern on the left. He's kind of a reggae vampire.
