Design/ Problem Solving Activity

 
  Our activiy was to design and build a mechanical toy. We were to provide documentation of the development and making of the toy in two forms: the working device itself, and a set of drawings produced using the ProDESKTOP software.  
 

For this activity, I chose to make a flying pig. The project turn into a pig flying over a scene of a farm and a moon. My pigs moved in a foward/ circular action while his legs moved like he was flying, with the moon twirling beneth.

Design parameters:
1. Toy must be hand operated by turning a crank.
2. Toy must contain a minimum of five moving parts (including operating mechanism)
3. Materials used- as appropriate- wood, metal, wire, paper, plastic, etc.
4. Size- table top- can be held in one hand to operate
5. Operating Mechanism- Could use gears, cams, levers, wheels, shafts, etc.
