One of our first assignments in Transportation was to make a timeline on a specific area of transportation. My group was assigned water transportation. The above picture is of the poster we made of a timeline of water transportation.

4500 B.C. Sailing ships are made in Mesopotamia.
3500 Oar-powered ships sail the seas.
1620 A.D. The submarine, human powered, is invented.
1716: Hovercraft was designed by Emmaual Swedenborg 1787 The steamboat is invented in America.
1776: 1St submarine used in warfare
1787: The steamboat is invented in America
1803: 1st successfully steam-powered ship, The Charlotte Dundas
1813: Armored Warship: Steam power enhances military power. Robert Fulton’s “Demolos” Sails.
1886 The electric-powered submarine is invented.
1909 The hydrofoil is invented. Outboard motor is invented, introduced by Bess Evinrude.
1912: Titanic sank
1954 Nuclear-powered submarines are used.
1956: Hovercraft invented
1973:1st jet ski mass produced by Kawasaki
1988 Sovereign of the Seas, the 73,000-ton passenger ship, sails from Norway.
1994 The “Chunnel” opens, linking France and England with rail service and a tunnel for passenger cars.
1998 The Grand Princess, a cruise ship with capacity for 109,000 tons of cargo and 2,600 passengers, sets sail.
