Cut out

New Background

Introduction:
"Compositing" is the process of "layering" two or more images together to create new images that never really happened in real life. A common example is photographing a model in a studo against a plain backdrop, then "superimposing" the model on some other background like a beach sceen. The resuling image is called a "composite."

Making the Composite:
First, I took a digital picture of myself using the self-timer on my digital camera. Then using Adobe Photoshop, I was able to delete the background. I experimented with different methods of deleting the background (for example the lasso tool and the wand tool), but found the wand to work better for my photograph. Using the magic wand tool I was able to carefully select myself, and delete the background. I then zoomed in on the edges and smoothed them out. After completely deleting the backround, I "superimposed" myself onto the autumn background. Then I had to adjust the size of the cut out, and add shadows and highlights to make the composite look like it really happened.
