ABSTRACT
UWB shows great promise for use in a number of
wireless communications applications, in particular, short range
high bit rate networking. However, due to the emissions limits set
by the FCC, commercial systems are limited in range for high data
rates. To achieve greater range, both simple and advanced techniques
need to be investigated. This article presents throughput-range
analysis for UWB communications systems in conjunction with a N-tap
maximal ratio combiner (MRC) and general selection combining, GSC(N,
L), receiver structures in Rayleigh fading channels. A
trade-off is presented between the receiver complexity and required
throughput performance. The analysis is further extended to
Nakagami-m fading environment.
