Pink
Floyd

-
|
One of the most
innovative bands of all time. Truly a band that was ahead of their time,
they embraced technology and implemented it into their music. Their entire
albums are an "experience." Roger Waters wasn't afraid of
dismantling one good song if it was to the benefit of the entire album.

Led
Zeppelin
|
-
|
Put together by
former Yardbirds guitarist, Jimmy Page (they also originally went by that
name), Led Zeppelin is probably the greatest rock band of all time. A
mixture of youth and experience, their run was cut short by the death of
drummer John Bonham, who is touted as the best rock drummer ever.

Bob
Dylan
|
-
|
No one writes
songs better than Bob Dylan. Many people complain about his voice, but I
feel that somehow he makes it work. He's always played the music his way
and didn't care what the critics or even his fans thought.

Van Morrison

|
Another awesome
lyricist, Morrison is an example of longevity. He has released 39 albums
during his career, and that doesn't even include the albums he wrote with Them
and he's still going strong.

Eric
Clapton
|
-
|
This includes
all of Clapton's bands (The Yardbirds, Cream, Derek and the Dominoes,
etc.). He was interested in all types of playing styles. He started with
the blues and worked his way to reggae and even some country.

The
Who

They made
smashing their instruments cool. Keith Moon was a spectacle to watch behind
the drums. I even went as far as to watch the rock opera "Tommy"
just to see Keith do his thing. They also hold the world record for loudest
concert.

U2

My favorite
band of all time. One of the few bands that has been able to change their
image and still remain popular. U2 has been able to successfully cross
genres, I guess they are the link between Modern and Classic Rock.

A great band
that a friend of mine introduced me to. When I say "introduce," I
really mean "played them non-stop." It's funny, now I find myself
doing the same thing. They are able to combine good and meaningful lyrics with great
musicianship.

Pat
McGee Band

A sextet that
makes it's home in nearby Richmond, VA. A great all around band from
the vocal harmonies to the way they play their instruments. Plus
Chardy just plain rules!

Guster

|
Comprised of
two acoustic guitars and the legendary conguero, Guster gets your attention
with it's one of a kind setup. However they hold it their as they
draw you in with good song writing and pleasant vocals.

Radiohead
|
-
|
The one word
that can describe Radiohead is "unique." Their style combines
traditional instruments with technology to provide a unique blend. They are
able to use technology to further their music without losing that rock
sound.

Virginia
Coalition

|
The best way to
describe VACO would be to take Funk, Rock, Go-Go, Country and Motown and
put them in a blender. This is the only place you will here covers of
both Toto's "Africa" and Blackstreet's "No
Diggity."

Toad the Wet Sprocket

Alas, Toad the
Wet Sprocket is no more. I've always been a casual fan of their
music, but it wasn't until after they broke up that I finally got into
them...argh!

Burlap

A Christian
band that's actually good, what a concept! Probably my favorite Christian
band. A great mix of steel string and classical guitars and a Mediterranean
influence gives this seven piece band its unique sound.

Jars
of Clay
|
-
|
The staple of
Christian alternative music. They are able to sing about God, but at the
same time, not be too preachy. Unlike most other Christian bands, they
don't try to imitate other secular bands, giving them their own sound.

One of the few

that I like the music. Just a good all around band.

My favorite
radio station, they play mostly modern rock with some classic rock thrown
in there

WHFS

Another good
station in the DC Metro area. Very similar to DC-101, except they play some
electronica now and then.

A rock station
from Baltimore, they probably play the largest variety of rock, but mainly
80's rock.

The area's only
classic rock station, however they tend to use the term loosely. Since when
is REM classic rock? Still a good station though.

Joy-FM

A Christian
station (doesn't the name give it away?) that my mom likes to listen to.
They have a habit of playing the annoying Christian music, but you'll hear
some good stuff from time to time.

Another
Christian radio station. They have some pretty cool programs during the
week, but I usually listen to CCM Weekends.

Washington's
news station. A good station that gives up to the minute news, traffic and
weather. Best of all, they also cover Orioles' games!
