[Abstract]
Combining augmented reality (AR) environments with immersive virtual environments (VEs) can reduce interaction gaps in distributed collaborative works. It can also provide many opportunities for collaboration in both real and virtual worlds. A computer vision based augmented reality environment provides variety of input and output modalities to networked and distributed immersive virtual environments.
In this paper, we present the AR-CAVE that enables gesture-based inputs and tangible manipulations from a set of augmented reality remote site to integrate physical free body interactions in the VT CAVE. As a case study of the AR-CAVE, a simple 3D ball hitting task called the Ting Ting Together (T3) is demonstrated under the networked immersive VEs.
